Hagley Avenue

Sir,—lt is all very well for the Chief Traffic Inspector to talk glibly about a three-lane set-up foi Harper avenue, but he will have no luck in getting the motorist to use the verges until the City Engineer’s department removes the excessive camber on it instead of spraying the existing surface with tar and scattering gravel. With the camber as it is, anywhere off the centre line a car is on a tremendous slope; and I cannot see the average motorist putting up with the discomfort and leaving the centre part clear just to suit the traffic department, while the other department does nothing constructive. Only yachtsmen seem to prefer to progress at that angle.—Yours, etc, READY ABOUT. March 25, 1960.
