INQUIRIES AT TRENTHAM
(Kew Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, March 27. Whiteoaks <B. P. Wood) fell about a furlong after the start of the Champion Hack Handicap at Trentham on Saturday and brought down Marcato (L. K. Tinsley). An inquiry was opened and after hearing evidence and viewing a film of that part of the race, the judicial committee adjourned the hearing till evidence can be given by Wood and Tinsley, who were both taken to hospital. • Domitare (I N. McCutcheon) ahd Kirklea (N. E. Eastwood) both stood in the stalls and lost several lengths at the start of the Suburban Handicap. The riders told the judicial committee that the horses refused to move off and that no-one was at fault .Spartacus (V. R. Coley) got down in its stall before the start of the New Zealand St. Leger
Stakes, and when released was found to have taken some skin off a hind leg. The horse was examined by the veterinary surgeon and declared fit to start. Spartacus was then obstinate about re-entering the stall and was started from the outside. After hearing evidence about the incident the judicial committee decided to take no action. Mr G. S. Walton, the owner of Girvan, was fined £3O for the late scratching of the horse in the Suburban Handicap, the second leg of the double.
