Year’s Eight Wickets For 22 Runs (New Zealand Press Association) INVERCARGILL, March 17. b °wling by the Plunket Shield all-rounder, D. J. Vear. was a feature of the first day’s play in the annual match between Otago and Southland at Invercargill today. Vear took eight wickets for 22 runs and Otago was forced to follow on 102 runs behind on the first innings. Southland has not beaten Otago since 1953. The Southland captain, W. A. Robertson, set his fields astutely and cleverly changed his bowlers. Only 20, he is the youngest man to captain the provincial eleven. Scores:—Southland 190 (M. McEwan 44, W. Robertson 39, G. McKenzie 24, J. A. Gill 21; L. R. Pearson four for 47, P. Chetwin three for 49); Otago 88 (G. Stewart 27, year eight for 22) and 13 without loss.
