Shop Assistants Give Support
The New Zealand Federation of Shop Assistants’ Association decided at its annual conference in Christchurch to support the work of the Council for Equal Work for the Job. Mr J. G. Shankie, who was reelected national president of the association, was appointed its representative on the council. Discussion at the conference yesterday concerned review of awards, the filing of claims for awards, and the appointment of assessors.
Awards due for Conciliation Council proceedings fairly soon are those of grocers,, fruiterers’, hairdressers’, and lending librarians’ assistants. In the election of officers of the association, Mr G. S. Scoones was re-elected vice-president, and Mr P. M. Velvin secretary. Local districts will elect representatives to the central executive.
