New Zealand is “probably the nearest approach to paradise on earth,” according to the Philippines Minister for Tourism (Mr Modesto Farolan). Speaking on his return from the Pacific Area Travel Association's conference in Christchurch, Mr Farolan said he had been impressed by the successful socialisation of New Zealand’s public services which appeared to him to be the most advanced in the world.
“Taxes are high but the Government renders more services than anywhere else in the world,” he said.
Tax Cuts In Union.— The South African Budget, presented in the House of Assembly today, contained tax concessions amounting to £6.900,000 for 1960-61 and £8.300,000 for a full year thereafter. There were no tax increases proposed.—Cape Town, March 2.
