KRAMER-HOAD VENTURE
Colt Bought At Trantham
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, January 20.
The noted American tennis promoter Jack Kramer and one of his players, the Victorian, Lewis Hoad, will launch out as racehorse owners in South Australia next season.
Today the Adelaide trainer, Colin Hayes, bought at the Trentham yearling sales on their behalf a brown colt by Gold Nib from the Ringmaster mare Trapese for 1700gns. The colt, which is a brother to several big winners in New Zealand, including the brilliant gallopers, Desperado and the recordholder Travesty, is well grown and shows class.
Hayes said today that Kramer had not previously raced a horse in Australia but did so in America where his Racquets Stable sheltered several winners. The colt is Hoad’s first racing venture. “Kramer likes the sport in Adelaide so he asked me to buy a yearling for him in New Zealand,” Hayes said. “Hoad decided to join the partnership.” The Gold Nib colt will be ridden for Kramer and Hoad by Billy Pyers, who has played tennis with the professionals at Colin Hayes’s own court at his home.
