SCENIC TOURS BY BUS
Good Patronage Reported
Each day at present about 120 persons go on sightseeing bus tours in Christchurch. The traffic managers of the Christchurch Transport Board and Midland Motorways, Ltd., both report the tours “very well patronised,” but no improvement on last year. About 65 passengers a day are taken on sightseeing tours by Transport Board buses. “Our most popular tour is to Lyttelton where passengers are taken on a tour of the harbour by launch,” said the manager (Mr J. F. Fardell) yesterday. The other tour shows passengers the city and suburbs as far out as Brighton. “After school resumes the number of passengers diminishes, but often on fine days in the winter we have heavy bookings,” said Mr Fardell.
The traffic manager of Midland Motorways, Ltd. (Mr R. C. Wasley), said the company’s tours of the Waimakariri and Ashley gorges at Christmas and New Year were better patronised this year. About 60 passengers were taken each day on the company’s two tours of the Summit road. This was about the same as last year.
