LAWN TENNIS No Big Surprises In Junior Tournament

Although some seeded players fell, there were no big surprises in the second day of the New Zealand junior tennis championships at Mitchell Park, Lower Hutt, today, but there were indications that I. Crookenden, the talented Waikato boy who performed so well at the recent national tournament in Auckland, might leave with a bag of titles. In his under 19 singles encounter with J. Anderson (Wellington) he was in beautiful form to win 6-3, 6-1, and then showed dash and vigour in a mixed doubles match with his partner, Miss A. Smith.

Auckland’s B. Young, the top seed in the under 17 singles, did not concede a game in beating D. Hawkes (Wellington). Young also won his doubles match in fine style with N. McNamee and performed extremely well in his mixed doubles win with Miss A. Glenie.
