BIG OFFER FOR SPARKLER
Failure To Pass Test

WELLINGTON, January 20.
Two approaches for the Wingatui horse, Sparkler, were made to-day but no business was done. A client of Maurice McCarten’s Sydney stable made a five-figure offer but negotiations ended when the Panair gelding failed to pass a searching veterinary test. In the other case the offer was not big enough to interest Sparkler's owners, Messrs R. S. Glendining and D. M. Reid, of Dunedin.
Mr Reid tonight said that Sparkler was not certain to run in the Wellington Racing Club Handicap on Saturday. This was confirmed by Sparkler’s trainer, D. P. Wilson, who said that if there was no easing of the track the horse might be taken back to Wingatui and brought back to Trentham in March for the Autumn Handicap.
