FEILDING CHEVIOT SHEEP SALE
Many Lots Failed To Meet Reserve "The Press" Special Service PALMERSTON NORTH, Jan. 19. The Australian embargo on the importation of stud sheep had a marked effect on the New Zealand Cheviot Sheep Society’s third annual sale at Feilding yesterday. Bidding was slow throughout, and many of the lots did not meet the reserve. A total of 218 sheep—l6o ewes. 52 rams, and six ewe lambs—was catalogued. However, only 67 ewes changed hands. The total value was 431gns for an average of a little less than 6Jgns. A. F. Bryant and Sons. Ltd., of Manakau, sold the top priced ewe for 16gns. Only 27 of the rams were sold under the hammer, the total value being 963gns for an average of 34gns. Bryants also sold the top priced ram for 80gns. Lake Pukaki Station bought seven ewes—six at sgns and one at. 7jgns. Dalgety and Company (Christchurch) paid 7gns for a ewe, and L. T. Iran (Winton) paid 35gns for a ram.
