NINE HORSES QUALIFY
El Adam Records Best Time
Nine horses qualified to start at totalisator meetings by pacing the mile and a half in 3min 30sec or better at trials held at Ashburton yesterday by the Mid-Canter-bury Owners’ and Breeders’ Association. The strong wind stopped the horses qualifying in the first heat, but this eased during the remainder of the programme. Fastest time of 3min 25sec was returned by El Adam, easy winner of the third heat. A three-year-old gelding by Amen Ra from Placid Flight, he is trained at New Brighton by G. Cameron. Kowa Maru, winner of the second heat in 3min 26 4-ssec, was one of the first horses to record eight unplaced performances and be sent back to qualifying trials. He made all the pace and had no difficulty in requalifying, which would suggest that the qualifying times could well be reviewed. Results: — First Heat.—Spangled Princess It J. B.
