THE COLOMBO PLAN’S TENTH ANNIVERSARY falls today. The plan, which has been a means of assisting Asiatic countries in their development, originated at a meeting of representatives of Commonwealth Governments in Colombo in 1950. One of New Zealand’s contributions under the Colombo Plan is illustrated. To mark Malaya’s independence in 1957, New Zealand offered a grant of capital assistance towards financing a department of agriculture for the University of Malaya. The department is being established in the Pantai Valley, near Kuala Lumpur. These pictures show the progress of construction and an architect’s drawing of the new buildings.
