£2000 FOR FLOOD VICTIMS

New Zealand’s Gift

To France

(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, January 12.

The Prime Minister (Mr Nash) today handed a cheque for £2OOO to the French Ambassador (Mr Jean Baudier) as a gift from the New Zealand Government to the fund for the relief of the Frejus flood disaster victims. Mr Baudier expressed the thanks of the French Government for the contribution, which was also the subject of a message from the French Foreign Minister (Mr Couve de Murville) to the New Zealand Charge d’Affaires in Paris (Mr O P. Gabites).

In his letter, Mr de Murville “My compatriots who were victims of the disaster will welcome with special gratitude this generous offer and the evidence of sympathy which it affords, both materially and morally. I should be very grateful if you would kindly convey to your Government the sincere thanks of the French Government and people.”
