WEST INDIES FEDERATION

“Jamaica May Get Out”

(Rec. 11 p.m.) LONDON, January 12. The Prime Minister of Jamaica (Mr Norman Manley) said yesterday that if the various problems of the West Indies Federation could not be settled, Jamaica would seek independence for itself. He was speaking at a press conference in London where he is now engaged in talks with the Colonial Office on the future of the Federation and the financial implications of Jamaica's position in it. "Jamaica must insist on a form of federation which we think will not disrupt the area as a whole or the economy of Jamaica," he said. "If that were so, Jamaica would have to get out."
