VISCOUNT DESIGNER RECEIVES UNITED STATES AWARD.—Sir George Edwards, managing-director of Vickers-Armstrongs (Aircraft), Ltd., who has become the fifth Briton to win the Guggenheim Medal. Since 1929, the medal has been awarded annually by three American societies to recognise notable achievements in the advancement of aviation. Sir George Edwards was head designer of the Viscount turbo-prop airliner, and he headed the team which evolved the Royal Air Force’s first V-bomber, the Valiant.
