Soekarno Favours State Control
(New Zealand Press Assoctatton) DJAKARTA, January 9. President Soekarno said today that all Indonesian exports and imports should be brought under State control. He was addressing a plenary session of the National Planning Board—his nominated “economic cabinet”— at Bandung. “Import and export must be carried out by the State,” Dr. Soekarno said. At the same time, private property was recognised under Indonesian socialism. However, its powers were restricted in the sense that “any property has a social function.” Dr. Soekarno suggested that private enterprise in Indonesia be given the chance to work in field production only. Distribution should be in the hands of the Government, he said.
