On Thursday of next week, the New Zealand ski team of four and its manager will leave Auckland by air for the United States and the 1960 Winter Olympics at Squaw Valley, California. The team will fly to San Francisco by way of Nandi and Honolulu, and will be met by the former New Zealand ski-er, Peter Lawlor. _ _ The team, which comprisesh W. F. I, Hunt (captain), R. S. A. Chaffey, and Misses Cecilia Womersley and Patricia Praln. will have a full programme of ski-ing before the Olympics begin on February 18. The manager of the team (Mr R. S. Duncan, of Nelson) said last evening that one of the first engagements for the team would be the Roth Cup ski meeting at Aspen, Colorado, on February 5-7. On February 8, the Olympic village at Squaw Valley would open, and the team would go there to take the opportunity to practise over the Olympic courses, said Mr Duncan. Only a limited timii would be available to each country to practise, and it. was essential that the New Zealanders gained as much experience as possible. Some members of the New Zealand team would stay in the United States after the Olympics and return separately, said Mr Duncan, Permission for this had been given by the New Zealand Olympic Association, in view of the large number of invitations which would be offered to team rpembers to ski at meetings tn different parts of the United States.
