WOULD GET NO FURTHER
Statement By Mr
O’Halloran
(Hew Zealand Preu Association) WELLINGTON. December 13 If the Russian migrant, Peter Pedaja, gets to New Zealand on what was described in Australia as his “crazy” home-made raft of oil drums, he would probably get no further. Pedaja was to have set out on his raft at 3 P-m. today in spite of warnings from authorities that the craft is “unseaworthy, unsafe and a hair-brained idea.” Since the New Zealand Search and Rescue Organisation may be involved the report was refereed to the Secretary of Marine (Mr G. L. O’Halloran). Mr O’Halloran said that Pedaja was “not our responsibility at ST but if he is reported in difficulties our people will have to hdo 99 Once Pedaja got to New Zealand he would not be able to leave in the craft, because of New Zealand legislation. |
