Athletics OFFICIALS DEATH

Tributes To Mr A. W. Hamilton

Mr A. W. Hamilton, who died earlier this week, was a very good example of what an athlete and administrator should aim to be, said the chairman (Mr W. D. Johnston) at a meeting of the executive of the Canterbury Centre, New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association.

Mr Hamilton was always to the fore in helping athletics, he said. For a long period he was a timekeeper at Canterbury athletic meetings and a member of the executive.

Mr Hamilton had- put his heart and soul into athletics, said Mr J. C. Harbut, and his family, when younger, had also been keen on athletics. He and Mrs Hamilton had managed touring Canterbury teams at a time when finance was more difficult. He paid his own way and assisted others with finance.
