Concern Expressed By Board
Concern was expressed as to how to deal with pupils who did not return Government-issued text books, at a meeting of the board of managers of the Christchurch Technical College last night.
It was pointed out that the average price of an individual’s issue was between £4 and £5. and sometimes books worth £lO or more were issued. The use of a collector was suggested, in preference to legal action. A scholarship has been offered to the college by Plastics and Die Casting. Ltd., for a student in one of the electrical courses The terras will be discussed with the managing-director of the firm.
The principal (Mr D. W. Lvall). who presided, asked for guidance on the disposal of the Angus McGregor Wright bequest which, it was agreed, would be used as a scholarship next year. Preliminary sketch plans have been received for modifications to the Madras street building, and details are to be discussed with the teaching staff concerned.
Because of staff difficulties. Canterbury Agricultural College will be unable to cope' with visiting classes, and will instead supply information so that instruction can be given by the school’s master-in-charge, it was reported Recent renovations have resulted in increased class-room space, and a grant of £l7l for furniture was received from the Education Board.
The college break-up will be on Wednesday, December 9. The programme, which will be formal, with the school choir and band, will start at 1.45 p.m.
