Ist BATTALION IN MALAYA
Scroll With Record Presented A scroll commemorating its record in Malaya was presented to the Ist Battalion of the New Zealand Regiment at a special farewell parade at Taiping on November 25 by the New Zealand Force commander (Colonel G. P. Cade). The parade was held just before the Dominion’s Second Battalion was welcomed to Malaya by the New Zealand High Commissioner (Mr C. M. Bennett). The scroll, which was presented to the Ist Battalion’s commanding officer (Lieutenant-Colonel W. R. K. Morrison) contained the following: “Twenty-eight Communist terrorists eliminated, of whom 12 were killed, four captured and 12 surrendered. The unit made contact with terrorists on 22 occasions and recovered from terrorist jungle-camps a vast quantity of stores, arms and ammunition.”
Trophies were also presented by Colonel Cade. The Barrow'■lough Cup for the inter-company Rugby competition went to A company. The runner-up, B company, also received a trophy, and a cup for all-round excellence in sports was shared by 2 and 3 platoons of B company.
