DRIVER’S FATAL NEGLIGENCE
Clerk Fined, Licence Suspended

“The defendant was travelling at a speed which was too fast to allow for safety and at a speed at which he could not stop when faced with a sudden emergency,” said Mr L. N. Ritchie, S.M., in imposing a fine of £lO on Brian Edward Lerwell, aged 26, insurance clerk, who was charged in the Magistrate’s Court at Gisborne today with negligent driving causing death. Lerwell pleaded not guilty. LerweU’s licence was cancelled for 12 months, and any licence issued later is to be endorsed for three years. The Magistrate made the provision that a licence may be granted defendant to drive in the course of hi* occupation only.
