Yachting AMERICAS CUP RACE
Vim Chartered By Australians (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) NEWARK (New Jersey), December 1. Vim, one of the United States’ sleekest racing yachts, left for Australia today where she will become a test boat for a possible Australian attempt to capture the Americas Cup. The 20-year-old sloop was loaded as deck cargo aboard the City of Poona. The cargo ship is due in Sydney on January 1. Sir Frank Packer heads a group of Australian yachtsmen who chartered Vim for four years. Last year. Vim lost to Columbia in trial races to determine which would represent the United States in defending the cup. Columbia went on to beat the British yacht. Sceptre. MOFFAT GUP Results Of Wellington Trials Altered (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, December 2. The results of the Wellington trials for the Moffat Cup national yachting championship have been altered, after the hearing by the trials sailing committee of a protest against the Gadabout (W. Hayman. Evans Bay). Hayman was disqualified and the lead in the trials series has gone to Windhover II (N. Everett, Muritai). An appeal on behalf of Gadabout has been lodged against the committee's decision. The trial series will resume at the week-end.
