Exchanges For 1959 Announced The following arrangements for the Young Farmers’ Clubs’ overseas exchange and scholarship scheme for 1959 were announced at a meeting of the clubs’ district committee: To the United Kingdom, B. A. McLachlan: to the United States, D. M. O’Sullivan; to New South Wales, A. Taylor. The winner of the Canterbury Frozen Meat Company’s Lincoln College scholarship was W. Fleming. Overseas visitors to New Zealand clubs: R. Brown and H. Yates from the United Kingdom will be guests of the Sheffield and Banks Peninsula Clubs respectively, and W. Moffitt and C. N. Beard will stay with the Ladbrooks Club.
Before the meeting, an address was given by Mr G. A. M. Hilson, organiser of the Town Hall Fair Committee. He said that among the fund-raising activities were a giant barbecue and a produce fair to be held in King Edward Barracks. "I have approached many town and country organisations for support, and hope that the Young Farmers’ Clubs may also be able to assist with gifts of produce,” said Mr Hilson. It was reported that the national stock judging competitions would take place in Hamilton on May 11, 1960. The chairman (Mr S. G. Miller) announced that Mr G. Aveyard had been appointed secretary, to replace Mr A. B. George.
