OPPOSITION TO APARTHEID
Lecturers Resign At Fort Hare (N.Z. Press Association-Copyright) ALICE (Cape Province), Nov. 30. Two lecturers at Fort Hare (non-white) University College—where seven white members of the staff were dismissed in Octo-ber-resigned during the weekend. They were Mr S. B. Ngcobo, senior lecturer in economics, and Mr E. A. Mayisela, a lecturer in the same department. No reasons were given. The South African Minister for Bantu Education (Mr W. A. Maree) told a political meeting in Natal last month that the dismissals in October had been because of the opposition of those members of the staff to apartheid. Fort Hare University College is affiliated to the Rhodes University. It was founded in 1916 as the South African college for Africans.
