TWO-MINUTE MILES
Ten In Australia And N.Z. Ten horses have paced one mile in two minutes or better in New Zealand and Australia. The record of lmin 57 3-ssec was established at Addington last Saturday by Caduceus, which took one-fifth of a second from the previous record established by Highland Fling. Ribands recorded lmin 58 7-10 sec at Harold Park, Sydney and he holds the record in Australia.
Lawn Derby recorded lmin 59 2-ssec at Addington, and Haughty and Gold Bar were both credited with lmin 59 3-ssec on the same course.
Johnny Globe recorded Imm 59 4-ssec, a world record, for a grass track, at Auckland. Tactician recorded the same time when he won at Addington. Tactician’s effort was recorded in a race started from a mobile barrier. ’
Avian Derby recorded two minutes at Harold Park, Sydney and False Step, the same time as a four-year-old when second to Tactician at Addington. Some of the horses listed above have recorded two minutes or better on other occasions, but the times listed above are their fastest efforts.
