POLITICIANS’ ABILITIES
“Rising Tide Of Criticism” (New Zealand Press Association) WHANGAREI, Dec. 1. “Everywhere I have travelled in New Zealand I have met one unmistakable trend—a rising tide of criticism and complaint against the government. I see and hear a growing scepticism as to the ability of politicians to cope with the country’s affairs.” The president of the Associated Chambers of New Zealand (Mr P. J. Harris) said this when addressing his “mother” chamber, Whangarei, at its annual meeting last night "This is not a new trend, but I am convinced it has markedly increased over the last two years,” Mr Harris saiid. \
“With that goes a profound suspicion of the power of the politicians to get us out of our difficulties, or even to reverse the trend. I believe those suspicions are only too well founded. “I am firmly convinced that, if these problems are to be solved, it will be done only by the best efforts of the most able men of business—men of the highest Administrative and executive ability." Mr Harris said.
