Company News CARPET FIRM REGISTERED
Factory To Be At Bromley
A £225,000 private company, Overseas Carpets (N.Z.), Ltd., has been registered in Christchurch. Formed by a group of United Kingdom carpet manufacturers, the firm will make carpets on a 12-acre site at Bromley, in suburban Christchurch.
The English companies associated in the venture are: Tomkinsons, Ltd., Woodward, Grosvenor, Ltd., Grey and Sons, Ltd., and Axminster Carpets, Ltd., of Devon. The New Zealand representative of one of the companies, Mr K. R. H. Neville, said the new factory would produce Axminster carpet “fully up to British standards.” Local Requirements To ensure production of colours and designs acceptable to New Zealand tastes, the head designer of one of the English companies had visited New Zealand to study local requirements. The contractors for the factory (Chas. S. Luney, Ltd.) were making good progress on the site, Mr Neville said. Plant and machinery had begun to arrive from the United Kingdom and the first of the technical staff would arrive by air from the United Kingdom in the next week or two.
The factory will eventually employ 240 men and women. Interviewing of applicants for work in all departments will begin before Christmas.
