A FARMER’S LIFE

A fanner’s life is a very full and busy one. Besides the usual seasonal tasks of preparing ground, sowing -crops, lambing, haymaking, shearing, and harvesting, the fanner is often busy on construction, maintenance, or repair work connected with fencing, drainage, farm buildings, and machinery, or on a variety of other jobs, such as weed control and hedge cutting.

Then there are sales to be prepared for or attended, agricultural supplies and equipment to be obtained, arrangements to be made for transport, extra labour, or contract work, farm books and records to be kept, and so on. But in spite of the many demands upon his time and energy, the good farmer, who takes pride in his property and the quality of its products, will still find time to keep up to date with developments in his fieldiy reading, discussions with other farmers, attending lectures and demonstrations, or perhaps even taking short, specialised courses at an agricultural college.
