BUILDING PROGRAMME FOR SOCCER CLUBS
’THREE Sydney soccer clubs— ] Apia, Prague and GladesvilleRy de—intend to spend £lOO,OOO in the next two years building social clubs. Apia’s club roc ns will cost £65,000 and will be two-storeyed. There will be a gymnasium and squash rooms on the top floor and on the ground floor will be two bars, a billiards room, an indoor bowls rink and a dance floor. Next year tennis courts and a swimming pool will be added. Officials of the Apia Club also hope that the local council will grant the club land next to the new bu : ’ding on which to build a soccer ground capable of holding 25.000 spectators. The Prague club hopes to buy a two-storey building for £20,000. The club intends to spend about £5OOO renovating the building and fitting out a gymnasium. Prague plans to have first grade
flayers working full time at the social club, making them virtually full-time professional soccer players. Gladesville-Ryde will be the first soccer club to open a licensed social club. Its £lO,OOO clubrooms will be completed soon and will operate immediately with a liquor license.
