Idlealong Trials
Having won the first three of the five races counting for the honour of representing Canterbury at the national Idlealong contest at Gisborne in February, Concern (M. Holland) is the automatic Canterbury : election. Judging by recent performances, Concern may well bring the Moffat Cup to Canterbury. This season, Mervyn and Andrew Holland will be sailing with a new mainsheet hand, Maurice Andrews, the commodore of the Stewart’s Gully Sailing Club. Andrews has not competed in a national contest before, but since the beginning of the season he has built up good combmatton with the two Holland brothers. For the last seven years, Oscar Pawson has been the mainsheet hand for Concern.
Concern is by no means a new entry at the national contest. It was placed second and third in recent contests, and now that the title-holder, R. Williamson (Bay of Plenty) has retired, Concern has a good chance of winning this season. The Holland brothers consider that perhaps their most serious opposition wil clome from R. Zorn, who comes from the Bay of Plenty, and will have the slight advantage of knowing the national course well. It will be the first time that Concern has been sailed at Gisborne.
