Soviet Troops In Hungary

BUDAPEST, November 30. The Hungarian Communist leader, Mr Janos Kadar, said today that Russian troops would remain in Hungary as long as the international situation made it necessary. The Soviet troops were not in Hungary for internal political 1 reasons, but as a result of international questions which had not yet been settled, he told the seventh congress of the Hungarian Socialist Workers’ (Communist) Party. • The congress, the first since the crushing of the 1956 uprising, is being attended by the Russian Prime Minister (Mr Khrushchev).

Mr Kadar protested against the United Nations decision to put the “Hungarian question” on its agenda again. He criticised the United States for its “campaign to stir up feeling against Hungary.”
