AMALGAMATION OF COUNTIES
Move By Springs “In National Interest” Paparua stood to gain little from amalgamation with Springs, but a union of the two counties had been considered preferable to the possibility of boundary instability with which both appeared otherwise to be faced, the chairman of the Paparua County Council (Mr J. H. Weaver) told the annual meeting of the council last evening. “It is not in any case the wish of the Paparua county to deny the ratepayers of the Springs county the opportunity of amalgamation with Paparua if they so desire, and there is little doubt that such a move on the part ofi the Spring county would be in the national interest,” he said. The final amalgamation scheme was awaited with interest, Mr Weaver said.
