Butter for Britain
Sir >—At the moment, there is an excellent market for New Zealand butter in Britain at a good price. New Zealand citizens are the most generous in the world. If they were asked to cut butter consumption, temporarily, to enable more to be shipped to Britain, I am sure the response would be successful. It is * P't* }°., have shipping held up. The details are for the Government to handle. Unfortunately, I have no influence with New Zealand s present administrators. Butter is subsidised at the rate °f 8d a pound to enable families and those on lower incomes to enjoy it without stint. This subsidy comes from taxation and does not affect the producer except that he can consume butter at a cheaper price than he is paid for it.—Yours, etc., RALPH S. WHEELER.
