ARGENTINE PLOT
Army Prevents Rebellion (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) BUENOS AIRES, November 21. The Argentine Army has smashed a Communist-backed attempt by Nationalists and supporters of the former dictator, Juan Peron, to stage a coup during the last 24 hours, an Argentine War Ministry source disclosed last night, United Press International reported. The source said the existence of an anti-Government plot was first suspected when it was noted that a number of Army officers were travelling into the provinces for meetings with officers of several garrisons. At the same time, arms began disappearing from military depots. As a result, all Army units had been confined to barracks throughout the country. U.P.I. quoted the source as saying that Colonel Reimundes, former Under-Secretary of War and alleged to be the leader of the so-called “Green Dragon Nationalist Lodge” in the Army, had disappeared.
