PLUNKET SOCIETY EXPANSION
Hoon Hay Branch To Be Formed A new branch of the Plunket Society will be formed at Hoon Hay. It is hoped that mothers in the district will give the society support Final arrangements for a public meeting to be held in Hoon Hay thia week were made at the Christchurch branch of the society’s November meeting. The shortage of Plunket trainees was causing concern, it was reported. The demand was so great and was growing so rabidly that it was decided to take every possible step to recruit nurses. The branch expressed its thanks to a firm for drawing the attention of mothers to the danger of using large plastic bags as either pram or cot covers. The Karitane Hospital was full, reported the matron, and there was a long waiting list. The charge sister reported 370 new baby cases, 3071 visits of babies to Plunket rooms and 2230 visits to babies at home. The matron of the Karitane Hospital reported 20 mothers and 32 babies admitted, 17 mothers and 30 babies discharged, seven sets of twins adnfltted, and 13 premature babies admitted and'eight discharged. The Leeston arid Southbridge Plunket sub-branches were thanked for their donations of £2O to the Karitane Hospital.
