A T7* T inJL This transformer was made by(AE]T) Twelve of these Metropolitan-Vickers transformers are working in one of the largest hydroelectric power stations in Europe, at San Esteban in Spain. The transformers are oil-cooled. Their new tank shape gives strength without ribbing, and less oil is needed to fill them. A.E.L plays an important part in the supply of transformers for New Zealand, with major installations at Wairakei, Haywards and Bromley, jfVE] I This electric motor was made by (aei) More than three-quarters of a million BTH and Metrovick motors, ranging from i/ioooth to thousands of horsepower, for driving things as . diverse as washing machines and cement mills are made every year by A.E.I. Many thousands of these are supplied each year to the New Zealand market. 2\ TT T Jf Jk JMJJI This water-cooled cable was made by (aei) This water-cooled cable—the first in the world—packs more current into less space than any conventional cable. It was developed by Siemens Edison Swan, an A.E.I. company. What is the future of water-cooled power cable ? It is bright. It may be used, for example, in generator cabling, where higher and higher currents have to be carried; in general high-power cable runs, where water cooling brings an opportunity to reduce the content of copper; and in the thermonuclear apparatus of the future, to carry currents which may be as high as hundreds of thousands of amperes. FACTS FOR THE CUSTOMER. This cable was developed primarily for the Glasgow University synchrotron. A hollow central duct, through which water flows, is surrounded by stranded copper wire with polythene insulation and a Terylene cover. . Associated Electrical Industries Ltd.
