Certified Potatoes

Sir, —May I support “Onlooker” and Mr Lennie on certified seed potatoes. Is it in order to ask the retailers’ and merchants’ federation why the conspicuous silence? Why is this Government tag so important when buying from the grower; so quickly lost when selling, and something else substituted of no value? But the price tag is usually the top one. What is happening in seed potatoes is also happening with table potatoes. We have three grades, super, No. 1, and No. 2. This information is never shown by retailers. The rule is the super grade price tag on the pig tucker. Why?— Yours, etc., GROWER. November 18, 1959.
