TUBERCULOSIS APPEAL
Interim Total Of £B4O
A total of £B4O was collected at 220 collecting points around the city by 6 p.m. yesterday in the Tuberculosis Association’s annual street day appeal. There are still several boxes to be counted on Monday. Office workers, sanatorium patients and nurses, pensioners and a dog helped as collectors. City firms made donations towards the appeal. Fifteen days ago an elderly woman patient at Cashmere Sanatorium collected 13s for yesterday’s appeal. That was on Guy Fawkes day when she borrowed old clothes from sanatorium doctors and went collecting. Dr. W. Gordon Rich, president of the association, said last evening that he was grateful for the response Christchurch citizens had made to the appeal.
