LAKE OKATAINA HOTEL
New Building Ready By Christmas “The Press" Special Service ROTORUA, November 19. A new luxury tourist hotel at Lake Okataina will be ready before Christmas. Contruction of the hotel, which stands beside the present fishing lodge overlooking the lake, is already well under way. The building will provide beds for 12 people at first, and It is expected to increase this to 20 beds within two years. At present no accommodation is available at the lake, whose entire shores are a scenic reserve.
A tourist liquor licence has been granted by the Rotorua Licensing Committee to the Okataina Tourist Company, Ltd. The hotel will be of five-star gradingj with central heating and showers in every bedroom.
The company has plans for later development at Okataina, which include a 60 j bed hotel. Then the hotel at present being built would revert to the role of an annexe.
