Lost Romance.—A man who bid for the hand of a widow advertised for marriage in a local paper was kept in suspense for six years and paid out £75 to the man who had concocted the advertisement. The advertisement purported to offer the widowed sister of Gali Subbaramiah in marriage to a suitable bridegroom. Jaikishen Batia of Uttar Pradesh answered the advertisement and Subbaramiah kept the correspondence going for six years. Finally Batia lost patience and complained to the police who arrested Subbaramiah. He had no sisters.— Hyderabad.
