Obituary MISS K. WILLIAMS

“The Press” Special Service WELLINGTON, November 20. The death occurred in Wellington recently of Miss Kate Williams who was for many years associated with the educational growth of Wellington She was 89 She was born at Charleston, West Coast, and like others born in this once flourishing gold town, made her mark in the city of her adoption. Miss Williams was first posted to Mount Cook School and a short time after to Wadestown School. At the turn of the century she was invited to join the foundation staff of Wellington Technical College, under its first principal, Mr A. D. Riley, where she began the commercial department teaching shorthand and typing.

Later she held positions at Wellington College, St. Patrick’s College, and various Sisters of Mercy convent schools and introduced to many the commercial side of Wellington business.
