LEBANESE PLANE FORCED DOWN

The Israeli authorities tonight released the British pilot and four passengers of a Lebanese airliner which Israeli fighter aircraft earlier intercepted and forced to land at Haifa airport. One of the passengers was a New Zealander, Mr Kenneth Allen.

An Israeli military spokesman said the aircraft, which had been .on a flight from Port Said to Beirut, had been allowed to take off. after an inquiry lasting six hours and a half.

It had been alleged that the aircraft, under charter to an Anglo-Lebanese-Jordanian firm, had penetrated Israeli air space.
