, Sir,—Edendale North (Auckland) was some years ago changed owing to confusion with Edendale (Southland), to mention only one further instance. The abolition of postal indicators is. I suggest, an entirely different matter, as it is well known to the business community that residents of suburban areas, when writing to firms, either omit their appropriate indicator or are ignorant of it It is also believed that towns and cities New Zealand are somewhat small to warrant overseas practice in this respect The Query you pose as to whether the St. Albans Post Office is in St Albans, Merivale, or Papanui is best answered thus: the evidence is that it was on its present site in 1916, probably considerably before; it is in Merivale, the Fendalton electoral district, the Fendalton police district (until recently); the St Albans Fire Brigade Station is immediately behind the Post Office building; while some years ago, the area was known as the Elmwood school district—Yours, etc, ANALYSIS.
