LONDON WOOL PRICES

Scoured Lines Make To9od

Some good prices for individual growers’ clips were recorded at the series of London auctions just closed, particularly among the finer wools. In its market review the London office of the Bank of New Zealand states that on two occasions scoured halfbred lots from Ashburton made 90d, both lines being taken by a West of England buyer for speciality use.

Three other halfbred lots made 89Jd, and 85d was obtained on several occasions, with pieces and bellies bringing 77d and 78d at the top level. The tone of the sale generally was very firm and it closed on a strong note. Among the greasy crossbreds Auckland wool made up to .56Jd, Napier wool 58id, and one line from Southland went to 601 d. In the scoured crossbreds Wellington and Napier wool frequently made 70d to 73d, with Canterbury three-quarter-breds making from 77d to 81d.

Chief interest in the slipe wool section was initially centred on combing deescriptions. They were in keen demand. Blanket descriptions, seconds and offsorts advanced' up to 5 per cent, at the close.
