Trotters And Pacers
As usual the entries in the trotting and pacing classes were disappointing. The judge, Mr P. Brosnan (Rangiora) said it was a great pity that owners did not exhibit their horses when the association offered good prize money. He said that the prize-winning horses in the two-year-old pacing class were of a high standard also the winner of the yearling class, but other entries were disappointing. Jumping Events - The wire jump was won by Mrs D. C. Gould on Cherrywood, who gave a very good display. This was followed by the F.E.L “hit and hurry,” a very popular event with the crowd which gives all horses and riders a chance to warm up. This was a very thrilling contest with a fraction of a second separating the first two competitors, George McClintock on Royal Mac and Miss Judith Nicol on Youilla. The puissance finished on an exciting note with the second jump-off over a very high course. Miss Noeline Darling on Remember defeated Ellis Upritchard on Landrover. The afternoon’s jumping ended with the pony F.E.L “hit and hurry,” the children performing well and creating strong competition.
