CYCLING COMBINED CLUBS’ FIRST EVENING MEETING

Fields were small but there was good racing at the first meeting of the season of the Combined Cycling Clubs at English Park. In the 32-lap cash sprint, L. Lock, who was having his first competitive racing on the hard track in the cash ranks, showed great tactics to win eight of the sprints. With five laps to go, E. Gluestein cleared out from the field and tbok the next four sprints. This effort gave him eight sprints, the same as Lock. D. Swanston won six sprints. The three-mile A grade amateur scratch race was ridden at a very solid pace. After the bell, D. Lyes moved very smartly from the back to go right round the field. R. Fowler turned on an amazing burst of speed to go round Lyes and take the lead. J. Beere also moved very fast and really pressed Fowler over the last 20 yards.
