Economy Run Next Week
A Holden car fitted with a diesel engine in place of the usual petrol engine will be one of the most interesting entries in this year’s Mobilgas Economy Run, which commences in Blenheim next Tuesday. Twenty-four other standard models will be competing. The £25,000 cavalcade of cars will be covering 1135 miles on a petrol-scrimping journey which will take them as far south as Invercargill. The four-day event will finish at Christchurch the following Friday' when the first car reaches Riccarton road at about 12.46 p.m. The prizes will be presented by the Minister of Transport (Mr Mathison).
The diesel car will be driven by Mr J. E. Ainsworth, a former chief traffic officer of the Transport Department. A radio commentator and press representatives will accompany the event.
