TRADE UNIONS IN FIJI
Assistance By F.OJL
(New Zealand Pres* Association) WELLINGTON, November 12. As a result of an official visit of its vice-president, Mr T. E. Skinner, to Fiji recently, the Federation of Labour has decided to assist the trade union movement there in an effort to better living standards. The national executive of the federation on Monday adopted » report by Mr Skinner which advocated the strengthening of Fijian trade unions as a way of bettering the present “precarious employment position.” The federation decided to forward a sum of money to the Fiji Industrial Workers’ Congress, to provide a part-time secretary and office for the first months. It also decided to send all available material on the trade union movement for distribution to affiliates of the congress. Regular visits between the congress and the federation are to be encouraged.
