Helicopters For India
(Rec. 11 p.m.) STRATFORD (Connecticut), Nov. 11
The Sikorsky Helicopter Corporation today revealed India’s negotiations for its S-62 jet helicopters, and Washington sources said they would be used to patrol the border with Communist China.
The helicopters have good mountain performance—they can carry 12 men and operate up to 15.000 feet altitude—and Sikorsky can deliver quantities of them during 1960. The S-62’s cost about 262,000 dollars each.
One of India’s problems in its border dispute with China is that incidents have taken place in inaccessible regions where helicopters are virtually the only means of quick supply and reinforcement.
